Definition of an Electric Piano.
An electric piano is a clavier (keyboard) instrument, in which the tone sources are struck (or plucked) mechanical resonators. In this respect it resembles an acoustic piano, but instead of a sound board to amplify the resultant vibrations, one or more electrical transducers are used. The output is amplified or directly recorded. A more complete description of such an instrument is 'Electro-mechanical' piano.
Although not strictly pianos, Electro-mechanical clavichords & harpsichords are included for completeness.
Electronic pianos use electronic means of sound generation & are not the subject of this site.
